While creating a new application is now easier than ever, there is still a lot of think about to ensure a well-run Citizen Development program in your organization. While we work through the organizational changes, we need to implement, there are some immediate things we can do to get started.

Step 1: Get some hands-on time with App Engine Studio

Everyone has access to App Engine Studio on your Personal Developer Instance (PDI) available via the Developer Program once you upgrade to Quebec Patch 1 (it is installed automatically when you upgrade your PDI). Login to https://developer.servicenow.com to get started.

If you are already licensed for App Engine, you can get App Engine Studio on your company’s instance via the ServiceNow Store. Talk to your ServiceNow admin about getting it installed.

Once you have it installed, open it up and take a look around.

Step 2: Go Deeper with App Engine Studio and UI Builder

Getting started with App Engine Studio is rather intuitive but there is a lot there to explore. Leverage the resources that are out there to get up to speed with the Now Platform functionality App Engine Studio brings you access to. In addition to getting to know App Engine Studio, get to know the UI Builder which is used for configuring and creating pages from AES.

As a reminder, Now Learning is typically updated a few weeks after the general availability of a release so remember to check back for updated courses and to take your delta exams to maintain your certifications.

Starting next week, you will see lots of great content showing up on the Developer Site and the Community including blogs, podcasts, and live streams showcasing App Engine Studio.

You’ll also want to make sure to catch the TechNow webinar on App Engine Studio on March 23rd.

Coming up in May, be sure to join us for Knowledge ’21 for several breakout sessions and hands-on labs on topics like:

  • Build your first app in minutes with App Engine Studio
  • Full Stack Development with App Engine Studio
  • Getting Started with UI Builder
  • Building a Killer UX with UI Builder

Step 3: Start Planning Your Citizen Developer Program

Once you have the basics of App Engine Studio, you can start the process of rolling it out to your core ServiceNow development team to make their work easier and faster.

With your core team leveraging App Engine Studio, you can expand your horizons to empower line of business or departmental developers to build applications in a distributed development model.

And once you have distributed development working smoothly, you can reach our goal of true citizen development with App Engine Studio where any user can harness the power of the Now Platform to build low-code enterprise-class apps quickly and securely.

We are here to help you on this journey. You’ll find several resources to help you in the Customer Success Center and in Now Create.

Now go login to your PDI and go build your first application with App Engine Studio!!!
