Microsoft Azure AD and ServiceNow Software Asset Management (SAM): What’s Coming in Paris Release

As Strategic Alliance partners, Microsoft and ServiceNow commonly collaborate on solutions that drive great outcomes for our joint customers. The Strategic Alliance team within the Microsoft Identity Division helps envision solutions based on our Identity platform, including Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD). Our Get-To-Integration team helps build these joint solutions with our partners, like ServiceNow.

Microsoft Azure AD and ServiceNow have had integrations around Single Sign On & User Provisioning for awhile now. Separately, ServiceNow Software Asset Management (SAM) has leveraged data from Office on-premise licensing & Office 365 subscription licensing since the ServiceNow Kingston release in 2018. Some feedback ServiceNow heard from customers was that they wanted to better understand how other applications were being use in their environment, not just Office or Office 365. I was able to connect the SAM engineering team to our Microsoft Identity team to see how they could leverage our Azure AD Usage Log APIs and our Microsoft Graph APIs (below in Next Steps) to accomplish their goal and give us feedback to make them better.

SAM managers wanted to see usage and login data for their SSO connected apps…all from within the ServiceNow SAM solution. That will now be possible for Azure AD's 3400+ pre-integrated SaaS apps! The result is better visibility on SaaS app usage, driving more app engagement, and cutting back on unused licenses at renewal - optimizing their license spend by approximately 30%!
