We are excited to share with you all the new innovations in Strategic Portfolio Management (formerly ITBM) for the San Diego release.

Organizations are being asked to deliver value faster while managing change in this disruptive market.

According to Gartner, by 2025, 70% of digital investments will fail to deliver the expected business outcomes in the absence  of a strategic portfolio management approach.”

ServiceNow Strategic portfolio management (SPM) provides leaders to translate strategy into outcomes that drive business value. It enables organizations to prioritize and fund what matters most, build a roadmap to guide investments, communicate plans, and track progress. It also empowers teams to plan and deliver work in any method.

With the new innovations in the San Diego release our customers are even more empowered to align all work to deliver more value.   Below are our latest enhancements and innovations:

Alignment Planner Workspace enhancements – Roadmap Planning is ServiceNow enterprise planning tool that allows stakeholders to visualize and communicate cross-functional plans to drive strategy to maximize outcomes.

In the San Diego release we are expanding the Roadmap Planning as part of the Alignment Planner Workspace (APW) with more advanced milestones functionality, improved tracking capabilities and new integrations.

In addition to managing milestones at the organization level, customers can now create and manage milestones at the work item level such as projects, demands, and epics. This capability enables planners to have greater visibility to focus on their deliverables and sequence their work effectively.

The new Scaled Agile Framework or SAFe integration enables customers to manage their SAFe portfolio in APW by creating roadmaps and planning epics.  Once the portfolio planning is done, planners can break epics down into features and plan program increments in the SAFe boards.

For teams that are executing their work in Azure DevOps. We now integrate APW with Azure Devops to scale agile planning.  Lastly, as part of the Next Experience update, we modernized the user interface.

Digital Portfolio Management- Digital Portfolio Management is an innovative new application that gives service, application, and product owners a unified workspace to collectively manage their services, applications, demands and projects through the full life cycle.

This reduces the manual overhead of work customers are currently doing to take data from multiple disparate sources. Instead, customers will be able to use this experience to monitor and act to align work to strategy faster.

Resource management enhancements – The Resource Management application enables organizations to accurately plan for available resources to deliver work faster. With the San Diego release we have enhanced our user experience by providing new data range filtering, advanced resource pagination and updated resource capacity. These new enhancements enable the resource managers to plan more efficiently and implement strategy faster.

Project Workspace enhancements- The new and improved Project Workspace provides a better user experience for project managers with a modern, intuitive UI to plan and manage all work.

Historically project managers have been forced to use whatever tools that were available to them. This leads to siloed tools and a general lack of visibility, alignment and frequent miscommunication.

In the San Diego release we are focusing on building new modern experiences for the project managers  to supercharge productivity with simple, unified navigation that gives them everything they need all in one place. The enhancements include the project home page and the Planning console.

Common Services Data Model (CSDM) alignment - Project managers and portfolio managers struggle mapping all their initiatives that they are working on into products that are aligned to a specific strategy.

With this new CSDM alignment they gain enhanced visibility by associating any type of work whether it is a traditional or agile work on the Now Platform to a digital product. So, the portfolio manager can always track a specific product and see if it is aligned to the strategy.

As organizations are challenged to deliver more work faster, it is true that better alignment leads to better outcomes. The SPM solution is designed to help you consistently achieve success by integrating everything from the top of the organization to the delivery layers— and on to benefit realization.
