In this 3-Part Series Blog, we are going to discuss the features within the Analytics Hub. Click here for Part 1, here for Part 2 and here for Part 3.

The idea is for this to become a "Quick Lookup Guide" for you whenever you may have a question about what something is or how something works on the Analytics hub. We will first look at the Overview Tab and then in a later Series the Compare Tab.

There are many features on the Analytics Hub that can bring great value to your Organization.  Although the Analytics Hub is not meant to be a replacement for a very well put together Dashboard, it can give you great insight into Indicators.  We are going to zoom into each area of the Analytics Hub and give some details about what you get.

In Part 2 of this series we are going to dive into:

  • Indicator Summary
  • Date Range
  • Time Series
  • Statistics
  • Breakdowns

Indicator Summary

find_real_file.png

Results are color-coded to show favorability.  If the direction of an Indicator is Maximize, increases in scores are shown in Green and decrease in Red.  If the direction of an indicator is Minimize, increases in scores are shown in Red and decreases in Green. Similarly, a color bar indicates whether the target has been met or missed.  The colors depend on the color scheme that has been set for the target. For more information see Create a target color scheme.

The time period that is associated with a score is shown above the score.  Controls let you move to the next time period, the previous time period, or the last time period.  The date you select here is reflected in the statistics and the time series graph.  The selected time period is carried over when you change to another tab.  The length of a time period (day, month, quarter...) is the same as the frequency of the indicator.

You can also select the date by clicking along the time series chart.  Furthermore, if you navigate to the Analytics Hub from a widget, the date that you select in the widget persists when you open the Analytics Hub.

  • Indicator Name - Name of Indicator being used in the Analytics Hub.
  • Score Date/Calendar - This is the date for the current score showing.  A calendar for selecting a time period or the real-time score.
  • Controls for switching to the previous, next, or last time period.
  • Indicator latest score - to the right of the latest score is a number with a (%) beside it.  This will show you if the latest score is higher or lower than the prior score with a color of Red or Green based on the direction the score is going.
  • Target - (if a Target has been set) This will show you the numerical Target that has been set up for this Indicator
  • Target Gap - This will show you the numerical difference between the Actual Score and the Target.
  • Color band representing the Target Gap - Color band, showing where the Target Gap aligns with the Actual Score.

  Viewing Real-Time Scores

You can select real-time scores instead of the last score in the following circumstances:

  • The indicator is configured to show real-time scores.
  • No scripted breakdowns are being applied to the indicator. In this case, you can also select the real-time score in the date selector, or by selecting the current time period in the Records view.  However, when viewing real-time scores, you cannot see records that do not match a breakdown element in the Records view.

For more information about viewing real-time scores in both the Analytics Hub and widgets, see View real-time scores.

  Date Range

  find_real_file.png
 find_real_file.png

You can set the time period of scores that the Analytics Hub describes.  The controls for doing so are above the statistics and to the left of the time series aggregation.  The time period you choose is reflected in the score, the statistics, and the time-series graph.  You have tow control options to set the time period:

  • Manually set a range to display by adjusting the calendar dates.
  • Drag the tow "handlebars" to visually select a time range of data to display.

  Time Series

Daily is the default aggregation which shows the raw scores. Some of the other available Time Series are:

  • Running SUM's
  • Running AVG's
  • By Week SUM
  • By week AVG
  • By Month SUM
  • By Month AVG
  • By quarter SUM
  • By quarter AVG
  • By year SUM
  • By year AVG
  • Monthly AVG
  • Weekly SUM
  • Etc.,

The time series aggregation is reflected in the score, the statistics, the time series graph, and the charts in other tabs.  The available time series depends on the frequency of the indicator.

Note: Selecting a time series aggregation overrides the Render continuous lines option that is set on the indicator.  This option causes the Analytics Hub to show unbroken data lines for this indicator, even when there is no data for a specific date.

  Statistics

  find_real_file.png

The following statistics are computed for the data points in the chart:

  • No. of scores - The total # of plotted scores on the chart.
  • Sum - The total summed value of all scores within Date Range
  • Change - The difference between the first score and the last score within the Date Range.
  • % Change - % change from the first score and the last score in the Date Range.
  • Average - The average score within the Date Range
  • Minimum / Maximum / Median
    • Minimum - Lowest score within the Date Range
    • Maximum - Highest score within the Data Range
    • Median - Middle score within the Date Range
  • Std Deviation - Measurement of the amount of variation of set values.

  Breakdowns

 find_real_file.png

You can show a separate line or column on the chart for every element of a Breakdown.  You can also filter the scores by selecting a breakdown and an element.  You can search for breakdowns and elements by name or you can open a breakdown and element selection dialog.

Filter the displayed data by record attributes like:

  • Priority
  • Category
  • Assignment Group
  • State
  • Etc.,

If you select a breakdown but not an element, the chart shows each element of the breakdown.

If you select a breakdown and an element, you filter the entire Analytics Hub to show only the values for that breakdown and element.

If breakdown relations are defined for the indicator, after you select a first-level breakdown and element, you can navigate to a related element.  The element can be in a parent-child relationship in the same breakdown, or it can be in another breakdown.  For more information about breakdown relations including procedures for creating them, see Navigating breakdown elements with breakdown relations.
