Customize default login page

Is there any way I can customize the login page and add up another field on it through which I can validate a user?
If not, what other way can I use to authenticate users based on new added field like location or department?

Not exactly what I was looking for. I want to customize my login page and add fields not just UI or texts.

HI Amaradi,

Yes you can create a new UI page with name login which will override the existing login.do page which is used for the login process.
