BiographyBIOGRAPHY OF GEOFFREY B. COX Geoff was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1961 and moved to Northern Virginia in 1964. As a teenager Geoff worked summers at YMCA Camp Warren in Eveleth, MN. Following his graduation from Langley High School in 1979, he started working as an Electronic Engineering Technician for Input Business Machines, Inc., while attending college part time. He ultimately graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University. In 2002 he earned an MBA from Virginia Tech. Geoff has worked as an electrical engineer, software developer, and project and program manager. He is a certified Project Management Professional, certified Lean Six-Sigma Black Belt, certified ITIL V3 Foundations, certified ScrumMaster, and certified ServiceNow System Administrator. Currently working for a 6th year at Verisign, Inc., Geoff previously worked at such companies as Eurotherm Controls, Inc., America Online, Xerox Engineering Systems, and GridPoint. Geoff has also been a Licensed Realtor® with Century 21. Geoff also plays jazz/latin trombone and keyboards, and is a composer and arranger. He played the Sousaphone with the Washington Redskins Marching Band for 18 years, and trombone with ¡Peligro! for 9 years. He is currently the solo trombone with Swing Shift, DC’s premiere 18 piece big band. Geoff and his wife Susan were married in Arlington, VA 29 years ago, and have been living in Sterling, VA for the last 25 years. Susan was born and raised in Arlington, and works as a Dance Teacher in Northern Virginia. She is certified by the United States Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (USISTD), and a member of National Dance Council of America (NDCA), and a Professor of Ballroom Dance at Northern Virginia Community College. She has competed professionally and appeared on television. She also teaches Ballet and Jazz through the Creative Dance Center. Geoff and Susan have a son, Kevin (22), and daughter, Stephanie (20). Kevin is graduating from Virginia Tech this May with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Engineering, and has accepted an engineering position at Verisign. Stephanie will graduate next year from the University of Virginia with a degree in Biology, and a minor in dance. Geoff joined Loudoun Elks Lodge #2406 in 2005 when the Lodge still had its quarters above an auto mechanic’s shop behind Dulles Airport. He served as Chaplain and Esteemed Leading Knight before becoming Exalted Ruler from 2011 – 2013. During this period the Lodge moved to its new location, “the Barn” on Holly Avenue in Sterling, VA. Geoff is also the Lodge’s Newsletter Editor, Website Editor, and Public Relations chair. Geoff is currently the District Deputy for the Virginia Elks North District, and the 1st Vice President of the Virginia Elks Association. He is also the President of the Lochewood Manor Homeowners Association, and Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Sterling Golf and Swim Club.
