Could you provide an example of the issue you encountered?
When attempting to extend the GlideRecord object I ran into all sorts of restrictive errors inside of the Studio.
I have not had a chance to chase it all down, and see if it was something I was doing, but couldn't get it to work right. When I get a chance I will get a way figured out to do the deed, but for now my extensions library appears to be Global only.
I'm thinking maybe the Java based classes are not available for extension in scoped apps. Or maybe GlideRecord which is really ScopedGlideRecord is a special case.
