I have been tasked with ensuring that the user data attached to a case remains static for the purpose of historical reporting. We have implemented the Workday-ServiceNow integration and we need to ensure that when an existing Cost Center/Location/etc. changes in Workday, the change is picked up in ServiceNow but it does not affect cases attached to the previous value. For example, if the name of a Cost Center changes in Workday, the change should be reflected in ServiceNow BUT any case created before the change should show the old cost center name.
I have been searching around and have not been able to find an OOB solution. Any suggestions about how I might go about doing this? Thanks!
You would have to make sure you are not changing existing values on the records (cost center, location) change, for historical reporting you will have to create new records so the association is not lost. All records have a unique sys_id and that is what is stored in the records. If you cahnge the name value of the cost center then it will update all records associated to that sys_id, this is why a new record must be created instead of updating the existing one.
